Ryan Douglas - Two Poems
Neo Germanic Jazz Fusionist Nihilism
With a feather in our soft brim hat we strut the mezzanine floor of the speakeasy.
"We mustn't kick the bar, we must lean into the bar."
Nurse, I cry, Feed me your incredibly over-priced medicine.
Neo Germanic Jazz Fusionist Nihilism and a quart of scotch thank you very much.
Lets go for a smoke, we all agree.
Pushing past the charades and cavalcades of grinning faces belonging to fellow patrons.
Goddamn you all
When I'm scattered I like to blaspheme for seemingly no apparent reason. But the reason- no matter how unapparent -is always apparent to me.
Adam Smith stands patiently outside the premises, tending to his automobile as he waits for customers-
For he is the only means of transportation away from this mischievous place.
-And as the neon lights flicker, the final adjustments are made to his rearview mirror.
Adam Smith drives the hearse that takes you home.
Adam Smith drives the hearse that takes you home.
The socio-economic consumption of tooth and bone.
Adam Smith drives the hearse that takes you home.
Sacco and Vanzetti must not die. *
A media outlet circulating content
with humility lost in the synapses of their cerebellum.
Printing press held up against the light
of 10,000 dead men walking.
A symposium disposing of the new thought everyone found imposing.
A systematic serving of potato salad
But someone has stolen all the knives and forks
I guess they figured-
"You can't burst a bubble or a balloon with a plastic spoon."
-And expect to go unnoticed by the hostess, for she is our lady in waiting.
They gathered at the table and reminisced the Aesop Fable
You know the one with the race between Mark Twain and Clarke Gable.
They discouraged the red tape of bureaucracy
And made a house call for the doctor to see
what their reflex would be
when he tapped on their knee
and announced that the Boston Tea
had been thrown out to sea.

Ryan J. Douglas is a young poet/writer, who grew up in a coastal town of South East Queensland but now works, lives and writes from Brisbane. For as long as he can remember Ryan has been obsessed with language, specifically its ability to tell stories and to create image(s) in a readers mind. Ryan's dream achievement would be to have his very own book of poetry on the shelves of his local library.
